Around 35 people turned up for our information event at 6:30 pm. It was our first info evening for the
FaGe. The room reserved for us (356) was much too small, so we spontaneously decided to move to the
opposite room (361) and even there we had to get more chairs. There were also parents and possibly
individual persons from the educational field.
Nicolas, with his fascinating way of inspiring the audience, was very well received, which was also
expressed by many people present. Everyone was absolutely calm and listened to him with rapt attention.
One of the nicest compliments came from a woman who said that with his lively, impressive description of
Zanzibar, he inspired the already motivated listeners even more. Another nurse said that he showed her
once again how beautiful and luxurious we can live here, where drinkable water comes out of every tap in
every household, electricity is available from sockets in every room, and we do not have to be hungry or
freeze and there is enough food available. In poor countries, there is often a lack of everything. She was
very grateful for the opportunity to experience this directly.
Ramona confidently took over the welcoming of the guests and with her perfect introduction, aroused
already the interest of those present.
When we asked who would definitely like to sign up for the taster trip in the spring holidays, 16 people
raised their hands. We were also assured that we can still count on further registrations from those not
present. Also this evening, we had to clear up the misunderstanding that has often been expressed, that 20
participants does not mean the maximum number of participants, but the minimum number of participants.
At the end, I briefly took over the topic of donations, sponsorship and membership and laid out about thirty
payment slips at the front, in addition to the brochures and information sheets. They were all gone by the
end! I should have put more down :). One man came up to me at the end and complimented us on this
fascinating project. He said that he worked for a company in the medical field (or similar) and that we could
expect a donation package with medical supplies, as well as a cash donation. He grabbed a deposit slip
and his companion also grabbed two deposit slips.
The event lasted 1.5 hours and was a huge joy for us teachers. We expect the trip to take place during the
spring break. Ramona will be there again and I hope also Cornelia, who unfortunately could not be present.
Here are some more pictures of this super evening.

Guests were the former Swiss Ambassador to Zanziber, Mr Thomas Füglister and Mr Frank Haring, who

of their experiences and were then available for a discussion, which was led by the Director of AKADCollege,

Water Research Institute Eawag in Dübendorf.
On Saturday June 9th from 10am to 7pm, CAAA was present with stalls on Paradeplatz and
Bahnhofstrasse. The event was fully sponsored by Tenfe and only possible thanks to our volunteers. Thank
you very much! We informed about our projects in Zanzibar, distributed the latest brochure about the
project "Vocational School with Youth Hostel" and looked for donors and members.
Nicolas Sarraj and Clémence Frossard were invited during the Green Economy Conference on May 23rd
2012 at ETH Zurich to plan outreach activities for agricultural experts in Zanzibar together with the NCCR
North-South Institution.
In May 2012, two meetings were held with the Rotary Club of Illnau-Effretikon to show how CAAA's
projects will be continued and developed. The 45 members of the club reacted very positively and are
eager to contact the Rotary Club of Zanzibar for a "matching". Financial support is almost guaranteed. The
director of the agricultural institution "Strickhof", Ueli Vögeli, is interested in a cooperation with CAAA in
Zanzibar.

Event to mark the SDC’s fiftieth anniversary
The 30th of September 2011, an anniversary event was held at the ETH Zurich to mark the fiftieth
anniversary of the SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation).
The CAAA association was represented by its president and some members and was able to inspire
Federal President Micheline Calmy-Rey about our projects. Unfortunately, she does not (yet) have time to
be an active member. However, we will continue to maintain contact with her.
