Y our mission in Zanzibar
We are very pleased that you are considering working for us in Zanzibar to help us make our projects
long-term, sustainable and self-sustaining.
As this is an important decision for both us, we want to make sure that both sides have the right information
to make the assignment successful.
Here is a general overview of the process:
Contact us here, with the subject line: "My mission in Zanzibar", by briefly introducing yourself and
explaining how you would like to and can support our project in Zanzibar.
If the contact is successful, you will receive more information about the current project
The board usually meets every two months and you can introduce yourself there on this occasion. This
gives both sides the opportunity to get to know each other, to discuss any questions directly and to
determine the further procedure, in particular who will be your direct contact person for everything else from
now on.
After the meeting with the board of directors, both sides decide whether they can imagine working
together and to what extent (duration, area of assignment, etc.). If there is an agreement, these contents
will be put down in writing, thus creating a clear starting position between you and the association.*
Depending on the type and scope of your assignment, further meetings and arrangements must now be
made. Since this is very individual, nothing general can be said about this. At the end of this phase, you will
be given a concrete assignment with a checklist and to-do list. In this phase, you will also receive all the
important and helpful documents that will simplify your work on site.
It is in the nature of the project that planning can only be transformed into reality to a certain extent.
Unexpected problems will arise, but also new opportunities. Here your independence and creativity are
needed to deal with the current situation in a meaningful way. Your contact person is of course available by
e-mail, telephone, skype... at your disposal. However, in some cases you will have to take responsibility
and initiative yourself.
Important for the project is the documentation of your assignment. On the one hand, this is done in a
very compact form through the checklists mentioned in step 4. For the mission report to be written after
your return, we recommend keeping a diary. We do not prescribe a specific form of documentation, but
since you will be confronted with a lot of new impressions, it is recommended to keep a daily "record" (it
could also be an audiologue, for example) in whatever form.
After the end of the assignment, the aforementioned assignment report shall be drawn up. This report
must be submitted to the Executive Committee in written form. This can be done electronically. However, it
would be nice if you could hand it over directly at a board meeting and at the same time talk about your
impressions and experiences.
Unlike other aid organisations, CAAA does not expect any financial contributions from you. On the other
hand, according to our statutes, everyone involved in the project works entirely on a voluntary basis. So
you have to pay for your own travel and accommodation. For accommodation, however, we can offer a very
favourable arrangement, as we have found a partner on Zanzibar for this..
